This database presents the profiles of formal and informal key actors that are working with men and boys to address sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within different institutional settings in Uttar Pradesh, India. Relationships with these organisations, units and individuals have been built through their interest and involvement in case study research exploring lessons from the ongoing campaign ‘Men’s Action to Stop Violence Against Women’ (MASVAW). The study aims to understand the relevance of – and opportunities enabled through – such a networked and institutionally rooted approach to addressing SGBV as that of MASVAW.
The research process for this case study engaged with members of civil society organisations, individual activists, political and institutional leaders, students and community activists.
Thus, organisations that engaged in this study as stakeholders in MASVAW’s work towards gender equality, and that have shown commitment through their work to engage men and boys in transforming gendered power asymmetries have come forward to be included and involved in this database. In other words, organisations (and smaller units) self-selected in relation to this criteria, during the research process.
